Cooperation Protocol between Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Prince Abbas Helmi III to Documen

Today at the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), a cooperation protocol was signed by BA director Ismael Serageldin, and Prince Abbas Hilmi III, the grandson of Khedive Abass II. The protocol aims to preserve the archive of correspondence, documents and personal papers of Khedive Abbas Helmi II and making it available to the public. The original documents, which are a property of Mohamed Ali Family Foundation, are to be kept in Egypt after being transferred from Durham University, United Kingdom.
On his part, Dr. Fathy Saleh, the honorary director of CULTNAT and the Prime Minister’s consultant for heritage affairs, states that these documents are pictures, letters, correspondence, and other important documents that represent an invaluable treasure for the heritage of the royal family. Abass Hilmi III, the descendant of this royal family, has preferred out of patriotism to keep such documents at the BA CULTNAT to maintain, archive, and make them available, in addition to dealing with it in a way that preserves them for future generations as part of the Egyptian heritage.
Mohamed Farouk, CULTNAT’s current director, states that these documents are considered a valuable addition to the different aspects of Egyptian heritage that the center has documented, particularly the databases of presidential palaces and the history of Mohamed Ali’s Dynasty, that serve its main goal of making information available for visitors and researchers.
