This 18-months-project is funded by the European Community with the purpose of increasing cooperation in research and innovation for the preservation of a shared Euro-Mediterranean collective memory. The goal of this project is to preserve and generate interest in Arabic Manuscript collections distributed across Euro-Mediterranean countries through formulating a pilot information system for documenting Arab manuscript collections based on CULTNAT's previous experience in this field. It includes a digitizing, image storing and dissemination plan.
In cooperation with the Egyptian Folk Traditions Society, CULTNAT managed to inscribe Al-Sirah al-Hilaliyya (Epic) among UNESCO's Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The inscription was based on a compilation of a comprehensive nomination file covering all aspects of Sirah Epic and it's proposed preservation plan.
