The most obvious solution is to set aside
Conservation Reserves (Protectorates) where the remaining
species could be protected. Endangered species could also
benefit from ex situ Captive Breeding Centers where the organisms
are bred and protected and Gene Banks where the seeds, pollen
and embryos are conserved to be used when needed.
It is also important to recognize that the recovery of a species
in the wild is impossible without the recovery of the ecosystem
components, structure and processes that provide the habitat
for its survival. It is therefore imperative that the whole
ecosystem be protected, e.g. the Red Sea ecosystem with its
precious marine life, coastal flora and fauna should be regarded
as a unit which cannot be separately conserved as each component
is dependent on the others and on the surrounding habitat.
