On the 19th of March, 2013, CULTNAT held an exhibition on the premises of the center called “Moulid” for the Spanish photographer Javier Menendez Bonilla. The exhibition is scheduled to continue until the 22nd of April, 2013.
The exhibition pictures the tradition of Moulid that dates back as far as to Ancient Egypt when monarchs were celebrated as gods and goddesses. In the modern Moulid characterized by a huge crowd of people gathering to enjoy the festivities and performing ritual dances, saints and martyrs replaced Pharaonic deities.
Mr. Javier Menendez Bonilla traveled and lived in many different countries, but retained a particular love for Egypt, where he lived between 2006 and 2010. During those years, he developed a personal photographic project for Moulids. Part of his work is shown for the first time in CULTNAT. Moreover, he was a photo contest jury, in several competitions including the EU Delegation Photo Competition in Egypt.
