MOU to Spread Awareness on Egyptian Heritage


The Egyptian Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage, CULTNAT that is affiliated to Bibliotheca Alexandrina and supported by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Egyptian Cultural Office at the Embassy of Arab Republic of Egypt in China signed a memorandum of understanding on the 7th of March 2013, in Beijing, China. The objective of the MOU is to preserve and disseminate information about the Egyptian heritage and participate in the cultural events organized by the Egyptian Embassy in Beijing as well as those organized by CULTNAT in Cairo.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Yasser ElShayeb, the director of CULTNAT and Dr. Mohammed Gaber Abu Ali, the cultural counselor of the Egyptian Embassy in China. Dr. ElShayeb said that according to this MOU, CULTNAT will provide the Egyptian Cultural Office in Beijing with heritage materials such as books, photos, movies, documentaries and outputs of documentary projects, so as to be shown in private and public displays in the halls of the Egyptian Cultural Office in Beijing. This kind of dissemination will not only promote raising of awareness of the Egyptian cultural and natural heritage, but also support CULTNAT activities through its relationships and communication channels with the Chinese authorities, use China’s latest techniques authentication technology and create a kind of partnership between the center and the relevant Chinese heritage documentation institutions.
Dr. ElShayeb added that CULTNAT is always keen on establishing relations and accords with local, regional and international cultural centers and institutions specialized in heritage documentation. The Center had previously signed a number of agreements with some cultural centers and specialized institutes, such as the “Institute of Arabic manuscripts" of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) an institution of the Arab League, and another with the "Egyptian Cultural Center in Tokyo,” Japan.
