Chairman Message

Cutting a tree has become an environmental crime. Yet,a tree could be replaced over a long period of time by another one. However, losing a cultural heritage monument is an irreversible cultural crime. That is why a need for cultural conservation program is essential in a country like Egypt. The cultural as well as the natural heritage of Egypt is in fact a non-depleteable resource. That is why there was a national need to create center for documentation of Cultural and natural heritage.

The center is a component of the national strategy for the cultural heritage, which includes: site preservation, site management and sustainable cultural site development. The Egyptian government has therefore decided, as part of its program for a leap into the aera of information technology and within the framework of building national databases in the newly established “Ministry of Communications and Information Technology”, to create the “National Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage”, in collaboration with both the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Environment.

Dr. Fathi Saleh

Directer of the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage
