The Series of Lectures: The Egyptian Civilization Timeline
Episode Eleven: “Egypt since the Islamic Conquest to the Beginning of the Tulunian State”
Delivered by: Nivine Adel, the Head of the Islamic Heritage Project at CULTNAT
Amr ibn Al’aas’ conquest on Egypt during the reign of Caliph Umar ibn Al-Khattab (19 H./640 AD – 21H./642 AD) was not the first encounter between Egypt and the Muslims. There were several such encounters during the reign of the Prophet (Peace be Upon Him), as well as during the caliphates of Abu Bakr Al Sediq and Umar ibn Al-Khattab.
This lecture presents an introduction of the different Islamic eras and states that came to Egypt since the Islamic conquest, as well as the timeline for some of Egypt’s neighboring countries. It also demonstrates the most important monuments and capitals built in Egypt during the reigns of the Caliphs, the Umayyad state, and the Abbasid era until the establishment of the Tulunid State in Egypt.
